Seam detector

Seam Detector (TRL6)

Seam detection for automatic registration
The glass seam sensor allows the automatic detection of the form seams of transparent articles that are rotated in the sensor's measuring field. It has an encoder interface to detect the angular position of the article's mount. With a rotation of the article in the measuring field, the sensor determines the angular position of the mount at which the form seams are in a taught-in reference position. The angular positions of the glass seams are output via the RS-232 interface within a millisecond after the end of the rotation of the test object in the measuring field. The seam positions can be determined at rotational speeds of up to more than 800 revolutions per minute.

  Application areas

Printing industry
For the high-quality printing of container glasses or other glasses that are produced with multi-part molds, the angular position of the object in the the printing machine must be clearly defined. This is the only way to guarantee that, for example, a company name is printed exactly in the middle of an elevation (embossing)  or that small print, such as analysis results, does not become illegible when printed over the seam. In contrast to the established mechanical systems that scan marks on the bottom of the bottle, contactless, robust detection of the seam positions can be carried out with the glass seam sensor even at very high rotation and pressure speeds.
